Sheffield Teaching Hospitals
Sheffield Teaching Hospital commissioned "I'm a Person Too!" to deliver training
to over 160 health professionals from all disciplines across the hospital, over
a 3 day period. The day workshops looked at health inequalities, best practice,
accessible communication and patient pathways. All of the sessions were impact assessed
showing significant gains in knowledge of learning disability. Sheffield Teaching
Hospitals are working with "I'm a Person Too!" to look at how the training can be
rolled out to 1700 new members of staff.
GPs
Rotherham NHS commissioned "I'm a Person Too!" to deliver their main training package
along with the My Health bolt on, as part of the Clinical Directed Enhanced Service
for People with Learning Disabilities. The team has trained all 40 of the GP practices
across Rotherham and has just completed a session for a new intake of GPs.
Remploy
"I'm a Person Too!" Is exploring links with Remploy and their Employment Services.
The team delivered a full day session to account managers from across the country
who are responsible for liaising with big private sector companies.
Sheffield Hallam University
Sheffield Hallam University commissioned "I'm a Person Too!" to deliver two sessions
to lead tutors and lectures responsible for delivering all health and social care
courses.
The teams are exploring how the training can be rolled out across all disciplines.
Job Centreplus
"I'm a Person Too!" worked with over 60 Job centre plus advisors to train them in
how to work more effectively with people with learning disabilities.
South West
GPs Wiltshire NHS/PCT
Wiltshire NHS/PCT commissioned "I'm a Person Too!" to work with them to design and
co deliver a programme of training for all of the GP practices across the county
as part of the Directed Enhanced Service for People with Learning Disabilities.
In total 84 practices received training.
Victim Support Wiltshire
Commissioned "I'm a Person Too!" to run a workshop to help their staff and volunteers
better understand what a learning disability is, how it may affect someone in relation
to crime and look at different ways to support people, including making information
accessible.
Taster day
"I'm a Person Too!" Ran a half day workshop for a range of statutory and third sector
agencies in Wiltshire, to demonstrate how the training can assist organizations
and businesses to provide better customer care and comply with employment and equality
legislation. Following this we have received requests for further training and making
information easy read.
Community Inclusion and Citizenship
Wiltshire Council is in discussions with "I'm a Person Too!" about how we can deliver
a series of workshops to community area partnerships and Area Boards, to raise awareness
and promote greater inclusion of people with learning disability and autism, in
the local decision making processes.
Community Inclusion and empowering people to take part in their communities as contributing
citizens is in line with the Big Society agenda and an area LA's are keen to develop
further. "I'm a Person Too!" Is well placed to assist with this.
South East
Metropolitan Police
"I'm a Person Too!" offered the training to the local force who felt that at the
end they had a better understanding of how they could improve the way that they
worked with people with a learning disability. They valued the skills and knowledge
of all the trainers and the opportunity to learn from real life stories.
Housing Department
"I'm a Person Too!" offered training to a range of local authority housing service
staff. They valued the opportunity to learn skills themselves e.g making information
accessible. They felt that it made them consider their own practice and think about
how they could change this. They were very keen to do more training, or longer sessions.
Some people wanted more people with learning disabilities involved as trainers.
Citizen Advice Bureau
"I'm a Person Too!" offered the training to staff in a very busy inner city bureau.
Staff were all really positive about the training. They really valued the real life
stories and learnt a lot about how to communicate better with people with a learning
disability.
Camden Society
"I'm a Person Too!" trained a group of staff and people with learning disabilities
in this large provider of services for people with a learning disability in London.
99% of attendees felt that the course met their expectations. Some people wanted
people with learning disabilities to be more involved in the training, all valued
the real life storeis and the group discussions.
